Introductory Post

I'm in currently in the final month(s) of completing my Master of Arts in Child Development at Sarah Lawrence College, where I completed my undergraduate work.

Over the last several years, my interest in education has evolved from informal science education (at Space Camp as well as museums like the American Museum of Natural History and the Hudson River Museum). This year, for my thesis work, I did fieldwork at SLC's Early Childhood Center in the K/1 class. Based on my observations of this class, I am writing a Master's Thesis about the emergence of a science curriculum and the different forms of representation of those experiences that the children have utilized.

After I complete this program in late May, I will be entering the next phase of my teaching career. I have been accepted to the Math for America Fellowship. I have been placed at Teachers College at Columbia, where I'll begin classes in early June.

My background at SLC has given me a strong grounding in the Developmental-Interaction Approach that's been developed and utilized by Bank Street College alumni. As I get into my math education masters, I plan to figure out ways to implement a progressive education in the math classroom on either the middle school or high school level.

I'll be posting my writings on these subjects here.
